The project involved the installation of a sophisticated three-span retractable waterproof patio cover system for a private residence in Upstate New York, measuring an impressive 31 feet wide with a 29-1/2 feet projection. This custom solution was designed to provide comprehensive protection against rain, heat, sun, glare, and harmful UV rays, enabling the client to enjoy their outdoor space year-round and significantly enhancing their outdoor entertainment capabilities. The system's design featured a unique drainage mechanism, directing water from the rear into the front beam and through the two end posts, where it elegantly exits into the surrounding flower beds, ensuring a seamless aesthetic and functional experience. Crafted from high-quality materials, the frame and guides of the patio cover are made entirely of aluminum, finished with a durable powder coat using the esteemed Qualicoat® process. This not only ensures longevity and resistance to the elements but also contributes to the sleek, modern appearance of the installation. The use of Inox stainless steel components, known for their high corrosion resistance, further enhances the system's durability, ensuring it withstands the rigors of outdoor use. The cover has been engineered to handle wind loads of up to 54 mph when fully extended, ensuring safety and reliability in various weather conditions. Attention to detail was paramount, as the design incorporated a smooth L-shaped angle where the uprights and purlins meet, creating a nearly flawless profile without overhangs. To further enhance functionality, a hood with end caps was included to prevent water and snow accumulation in the fabric folds when not in use. The system is powered by a Somfy RTS motor, conveniently controlled via an interior wall switch or remote control, offering ease of use. Concrete footers were meticulously installed for sturdy post mounting, and a pressure-treated wood ledger board was mounted to accommodate the older, uneven stone structure of the client’s home. The outcome has left the client exceedingly satisfied, as the retractable patio cover now transforms a large outdoor area into a versatile living space that can be enjoyed throughout the seasons.
