The Peaks View Residence is a stunning architectural achievement situated in a grassy meadow near Wilson, Wyoming, with breathtaking views of the Teton mountain range. This project uniquely balances the traditional design guidelines of its surrounding neighborhood with the owners' desire for a modern aesthetic, resulting in a residence that is both distinctive and contextually appropriate. The thoughtful design breaks down the scale of the expansive 6,500 square foot program through a harmonious assemblage of building volumes. Two gabled, two-story structures present a classic appearance to the neighborhood, while a single-story living pavilion, characterized by its striking shed roof, opens up towards the views and allows an abundance of natural light to flood the primary living areas. This trio of forms embraces a south-facing courtyard, creating a sheltered outdoor living space that is perfect for enjoying the short summer season in Wyoming. The design incorporates broad overhangs, elegantly articulated in wood, which taper to a sleek steel “brim,” effectively shielding the residence from the region's challenging western weather. Additionally, the roof of the living pavilion extends outward, creating a seamless covered outdoor extension that enhances the main living space. Clad primarily in cedar siding, the residence employs two distinct types of siding to add pattern, texture, and depth to the exterior elevations. While the exterior successfully adheres to the design guidelines of the neighborhood, the interiors reveal a thoughtfully curated, warm, and refined character. Featuring a blend of wood and plaster with a minimalist approach to detailing, the interior spaces exude sophistication. A deliberate showcase for a Kimono is integrated into the entry sequence, echoing its influence through delicate stair screens and simple wood millwork conceived as functional containers within the spaces. Ample glazing throughout the residence fosters a strong connection to the surrounding landscape, ensuring that the Peaks View Residence not only meets the needs of its inhabitants but also celebrates its stunning natural setting.
