About This Project

This Bath Make Over project transformed a post-war era bungalow's bathroom, a space that had not seen a renovation in over 60 years, into a contemporary oasis while respecting its traditional roots. The original layout featured dated 4x4 blue ceramic wall tiles and a mosaic floor set in two inches of mortar, reflecting the design trends of its time. The homeowners envisioned a modern bathroom that would seamlessly blend with the character of their home. To achieve this, we completely stripped the room down to the studs, allowing for the installation of new insulation and a vapor barrier, followed by fresh drywall on both the walls and ceiling. This essential step not only improved energy efficiency but also provided a clean slate for the new design. The layout was reconfigured to accommodate a wide vanity and a spacious linen cabinet, replacing the outdated pedestal sink and framed closet. The choice of materials was crucial in creating a contemporary feel. The homeowners opted for a durable Kohler cast iron tub, which serves as a focal point in the space while white subway tiles elegantly line the shower, offering a timeless aesthetic. Complementing these features are the sleek horizontal grain bamboo cabinetry and a white Silestone quartz countertop, which delivers both beauty and functionality. An undermount sink enhances the clean lines of the vanity, further contributing to the modern design. This thoughtful approach to the remodel not only maximized the small footprint of the bathroom but also resulted in a sophisticated and practical space that reflects the homeowners' vision. The Bath Make Over successfully marries contemporary design with traditional elements, creating a stunning bathroom that is both functional and inviting, perfect for daily use and entertaining guests alike.
