About This Project

The Cherry Street Historic Home project entailed a thoughtful renovation of a kitchen that had last been updated in the 1970s, aiming to align its design with the historical character of the home. The layout posed several challenges, including limited cabinetry space, fixed window and door placements, and the necessity to uphold the exterior appearance as dictated by the Heritage Hill Historical Society's guidelines. The homeowners also expressed a desire to preserve or repurpose original cabinetry, adding a layer of complexity to the project. After exploring various layout options, we successfully crafted a design that harmonized functionality with the home’s historical integrity. With the layout finalized, focus shifted to selecting finishes, where the flooring emerged as a significant challenge. Initially, the client favored a large-format tile; however, the home's age and previous modifications resulted in an uneven floor unsuitable for such materials. Fortunately, the contractor's expertise in leveling the floor allowed for tile installation to proceed. In a twist of fate, the client had to make a last-minute change to her tile selection due to extended lead times, which serendipitously led to the discovery of a stunning new flooring option that truly elevated the kitchen's aesthetic. The final result is a beautiful blend of contemporary functionality and timeless elegance, capturing the essence of the historic home while catering to the needs of modern living. The craftsmanship shines through in every detail, from the preserved cabinetry to the carefully chosen materials that respect the home's legacy. This project not only revitalized the kitchen space but also deepened the homeowners' connection to their historic residence, making it a rewarding experience for all involved. The Cherry Street Historic Home stands as a testament to the harmonious balance between preservation and innovation in home design.
