The AP-1 House is a stunning example of mid-century modern architecture, situated in the heart of Sarasota, FL, renowned for its rich history of innovative design. This project involved a thoughtful reimagining of an existing 1,100 square foot, three-bedroom, two-bathroom home, preserving the charm of the original structure while enhancing its functionality and aesthetic appeal. The clients recognized the potential of the enclosed carport, envisioning it as a spacious primary suite that would not only increase the living area to 1,475 square feet but also bring a sense of openness and light into the home. The design choices made for the primary suite reflect a sophisticated monochromatic aesthetic, skillfully contrasting with the vibrant materiality of the existing home. Clerestory windows were incorporated to maximize natural light, enhancing the airy feel of the new space while ensuring privacy. The craftsmanship throughout the project is evident in the meticulous attention to detail, from the seamless integration of the new suite with the original structure to the selection of high-quality materials that echo the mid-century modern style. Terrazzo floors were maintained in the main living areas, providing a cohesive flow and a nod to the home’s historic roots. In addition to the interior transformation, the project also focused on enhancing the outdoor spaces. Both the front and rear yards were redesigned to create accessible and functional landscapes, allowing for seamless indoor-outdoor living. This thoughtful landscaping not only beautifies the property but also serves as an extension of the home, providing areas for relaxation and entertainment.
