Nestled within the charming confines of an old artisan's cottage, the Very Small Xeriscape Cottage Garden is a testament to thoughtful design and sustainable landscaping. This project was commissioned by a retired lady seeking a low-maintenance garden filled with visual interest and a touch of Mediterranean flair. The garden, which narrows to just 10 feet in width at its base, cleverly utilizes the limited space by incorporating a custom garden store. This store has been thoughtfully modified to feature large windows, enhancing the sense of depth and inviting natural light into the area. To create a harmonious flow through the garden, we opted for an offset gravel pathway, which not only guides visitors through the space but also instills a feeling of movement that draws the eye along its curves. The choice of materials was key to achieving a drought-tolerant landscape; the gravel not only promotes excellent drainage but also complements the overall Mediterranean aesthetic. Various plant species were carefully selected for their resilience and beauty, ensuring that the garden thrives in full sun while requiring minimal upkeep.
