Woodland The 'Woodland', masterfully designed by David R. Lamb, Landscape Architect, transformed outdoor living in an exquisite residential landscape. Located within the scenic areas of Huntington and adjacent communities, this work melds nature and modernity. The client envisioned a place of solitude on the property as well as a great gathering area for family and friends. We started the collecting site analysis, mapping out the existing tree canopies that would provide shade for the new structures, and identifying natural contours in the topography of the site. In a bid to sustainably embrace local biodiversity, we included various native plants to allow the lush surroundings to flourish. Here exquisite, repeating groups of ornamental grasses, flowering perennials and evergreen shrubs provided a layered and dynamic palette that would be at once colorful and interesting to the eye throughout the seasons. That came with challenges, ly the irregular topography, which needed some creative grading and drainage solutions to keep heavy rains from pooling into lakes. We minutely manipulated the topography to contour the landscape, seamlessly incorporating permeable paving into the pathways and patio that further enhance the visual and hydrological benefit during rain events. By planning the layout out of time it gave this area usable peace of mind for any weather. Natural stone features, specifically a custom built fire pit and seating area, were embraced by the landscape to create natural gathering places where you might find family and friends sharing stories and laughter. That meant using reclaimed wood for the raised garden beds, giving both rustic charm and sustainably used materials. The introduction of low soft diffuse lighting also helped to change the look of the space and gave guests enchanting moments under the stars. The Woodland is the end product of this craftsmanship and care. They loved their new space as a beautiful respite from the busyness of the everyday world, and so did we! This blend of functionality and nature not only brought valuable additional quality to the property, but also enriched the client`s lifestyle with 'Woodland' becoming an integral part of their home.
