About This Project

The Powell Project in Mattawan, MI, represents a remarkable transformation of an existing deck into a beautifully designed outdoor living space. Previously, the deck featured a step around its outer perimeter that provided no clear boundaries, which, combined with constant sun exposure, rendered the area less functional, particularly for families with young children. The goal of this renovation was to create a welcoming and practical environment that could be enjoyed by all, regardless of the time of day. To achieve this vision, we implemented a new two-tone deck perimeter that not only adds visual interest but also establishes a defined area for relaxation and entertainment. The choice of materials was critical to the project’s success; we selected Trex "Transcend" railing, known for its durability and low maintenance, ensuring that the space remains beautiful for years to come. The sleek lines and modern aesthetic of the Trex railing complement the overall design while providing safety and structure. A standout feature of the remodel is the custom-designed pergola, which provides much-needed shade and elevates the space to that of an "outdoor living room." This pergola not only enhances the deck's functionality but also serves as an architectural focal point that invites gatherings and leisure activities. Additionally, we incorporated a corner step into the design, facilitating easy access and enhancing the deck’s usability. The craftsmanship involved in this project reflects a commitment to quality and attention to detail. Every aspect, from the selection of materials to the meticulous installation process, was executed with care, resulting in an elegant and cohesive outdoor space. The outcome is a stunning deck that seamlessly blends style and function, making it a cherished retreat for family and friends, perfect for relaxation or entertaining. The Powell Project stands as a testament to how thoughtful design can redefine outdoor living.
