For twenty years I have designed landscapes for large developments, subdivisions, wetlands restoration and residential design. I now work mainly in residential design and green projects, and my intention is, at the very least, to make a beautiful sustainable project that will most likely inspire a gooey feeling of awe for the environment. There, I am a co-founder and vice president of Grow It Green Morristown, a non-profit that builds community through food and developed the Early Street Community Garden and the fabulous Urban Farm, an educational farm focused on teaching agricultural practices to our schoolkids! Residential design gives me that opportunity because not only do you follow the planting design, but also the site design, construction and drain, which is a more common practice. I love green spaces of all types — from the minimalist aesthetic of a contemporary garden project to the ever-evolving mixed border found in many English gardens — so I get it. As someone who cares about the environment, it is important to me that our landscapes are environmentally sustainable, and we are not doing something that is going to be detrimental to future generations. As the landscape I have developed have always been the "green" kind, my clients are mirroring my principles at a time where there is growing care for responsibilities towards our Earth. Some examples include removing exotic invasive plants from our design maps, installing rain gardens to filter runoff before it reaches the storm drains, preserving rain to water gardens, using local material to reduce our carbon footprint.
