A healthy lawn is a source of pride. Gunter's 7-Step Lawn Care System is designed to save you time and money, while providing the desired look for your lawn. The first step is an application of granular fertilizer applied in early spring to stimulate new growth, along with a pre-emergent herbicide that helps to control grassy weeds such as foxtail and crabgrass. The next application is for broadleaf weed control in mid-spring; this product assists in controlling weeds like clover and dandelions. By late spring, a slow release fertilizer is applied that will help sustain your lawn's growth through the summer months. There is also a booster application of pre-emergent herbicide to control crabgrass and foxtail. For broadleaf weed control, spot treatments should be done as needed. There are also applications of granular insecticide to eliminate damaging insects from your turf and to control grubs. During summer, fertilizing is an important practice to keep your grass healthy and growing while encouraging the development of strong root systems to endure the heat of summer. Fertilizing should continue into late summer, which allows for recovery after the heat of summer has faded, thus allowing for re-establishing your lawn's healthy condition. The most critical fertilization of the year is winterizing; this is a large application of nitrogen fertilizer at the end of fall to build a significant food supply that will be available for use during the early part of spring and summer. Winterizing should help early spring green-up you to achieve a faster spring growth, best color, improved rooting, and fewer spring diseases.
