About SplitPea Edible Landscaping

SplitPea Edible Landscaping is a Landscape Construction professional based in Boise, ID, serving Boise, Eagle, Garden City, Meridian.

We are a design-through-build firm specializing in keeping edible plants in small, urban environments. We provide both educational and resourceful means for anyone looking to start growing in the city and promote self-sufficiency. Our areas of expertise include edible landscaping, water-conserving gardens that support pollinators, and urban homesteading. Are you overwhelmed with the thought of growing vegetables? Don't be! We dedicate ourselves to teaching both experienced growers and those who think they can't "grow" about the easiest organic methods for growing edible plants and keeping them healthy. No matter what your plan is—if you want to remove your existing lawn and create a whole new garden environment from scratch, or just add raised beds around the perimeter of your yard, or turn existing trees, shrubs, and flowers into edible landscapes—we can help! Do you think you don't have enough space for a vegetable garden? We will create a customized, detailed plan designed for your particular property. Would you like to grow xeric (or water wise) plants and/or create a habitat for our pollinators? We can help with that! Perhaps you are interested in becoming a part of the Urban Chicken Movement or want to set up an easy-to-manage composting system? We can help with that too! Additionally, we can teach you about water conservation methods. We aim to teach you about water-wise techniques for your vegetable garden, while helping to reduce your reliance on industrialized food providers, and at the same time create exciting, nutrient-rich, chemical-free produce that you can grow in your own yard! Anyone want some homemade salsa? And if you aren't interested in growing vegetables yourself, you can always grow vegetables for our pollinators, who are responsible for pollinating our food! We encourage creative ways to think, live sustainably, and grow as a community.

FAQ

To make an edible garden, many different landscaping services may be necessary. Many of these services will be customized to the needs and space of the client. The most common option is to hire a professional landscaping service to create a custom-designed edible garden, where the professionals will assess the area and prepare a plan that includes edible plants and integrates the existing landscape with the new edible garden. Some of the more common landscaping services include planting services, hardscaping services, and mulching services. These services not only help to enhance the look of the garden but also make the garden more functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. In addition to planting edible plants, an irrigation system is typically installed or a drip irrigation system is put in place, which allows for the plants to receive the proper amount of water while using fewer resources. Many landscaping companies, such as SplitPea Edible Landscaping; provide education to the clients on how to maintain their gardens using organic gardening methods, thereby allowing their clients to grow their own food sustainably. Many landscaping companies also offer their clients assistance in building pollinator habitats, which support the local ecosystem. Ultimately, the goal of creating an edible garden is to develop a productive and beautiful outdoor space that allows for individuals to provide for themselves while living a healthy lifestyle.
Landscapers typically have a defined geographic area in which they service customers so as to provide effective and efficient services when providing landscaping. Many landscaping service providers serve multiple areas like Boise, Eagle, Garden City, Meridian, etc. For the provider to offer you services such as custom made fire pits, irrigation, garden / yard design, etc., please double-check coverage areas with the provider. Confirming coverage areas will assist your provider in being able to provide you with quick response times and maintain your landscape between visits. SplitPea Edible Landscaping is proud to be a member of each of these communities and we are committed to creating edible landscapes that enhance our urban lifestyle as well as promoting the use of sustainable landscaping practices.
Landscaping prices will vary by service due to varying project scopes, types of materials used and design complexity. After completing an initial assessment of the area, a landscaping company will typically prepare an estimate based upon their findings (area size, number of plants used, number of hardscape features included, additional services such as irrigation or maintenance). The pricing for landscape services can begin as low as $300 for basic landscaping services and range up to $50,000 for larger projects. During the estimate process please make sure to communicate both your budget and expectations so that SplitPea Edible Landscaping will develop a unique landscaping plan that will meet your needs from an aesthetic standpoint and a financial standpoint.
To receive quality results from a landscaping contractor, it’s important to examine their training and expertise. To do this, find out whether the landscape company offers professional credentials in the industry such as: certificate programs, degrees, or other professional certifications of the contractor and check for experience in creating edible landscaping (i.e., food-producing plants) and sustainable gardening practices if you wish to create a beautiful and productive garden. Finally, ensure that the contractor is licensed, carries liability insurance, and has received certification from professional organizations, as these will show you that the contractor is committed to providing quality services. Lastly, use bride review sites and the contractor’s previous work portfolios as tools to help you make an informed decision about a contractor based on style and reliability. SplitPea Edible Landscaping is a good example of a landscape contractor that believes that the members of their team should be knowledgeable and have the experience necessary to educate, assist, and guide customers.
A landscaping project generally begins with an initial consultation between you and the landscaper to evaluate your ideas, budget, and other requirements. The landscaper will assess your site, taking into account the amount of sunlight, soil type and quality, and existing plants or trees. Once the landscaper has completed the assessment, he/she will create a design plan that includes the landscaping elements and materials. Once the design plan has been agreed upon and the budget has been set, the installation of the landscaping project will begin, which will consist of the contractor following the design plan to install the landscaping. After the installation has been completed, many companies provide maintenance services to help keep your landscape healthy and thriving. SplitPea Edible Landscaping believes strongly in educating clients throughout the design and installation process so that they can maintain their gardens sustainably and successfully.
