Description
Corteva Lontrel is a selective herbicide that effectively manages difficult-to-control weeds in ornamental landscapes, golf courses, and other turf areas. It is a postemergence herbicide, so it is most effective on weeds that have already sprouted.
The product is safe for a range of turfgrass types and can be applied to control difficult weeds such as thistle, dandelion, clover and dollarweed. This herbicide contains the active ingredient clopyralid and is designed to control weeds without harming turf varieties, even those types that are extremely sensitive.
How Corteva Lontrel Works
Corteva Lontrel is formulated with clopyralid, an ingredient that is absorbed through weeds’ leaves. After being taken up, it circulates through the plant to the roots. This systemic control blocks the weeds from continuing to grow and they will eventually wither and die. Lontrel is especially good on hard to kill deep rooted weeds with other herbicides.
Lontrel should be used on actively growing weeds for best results. The herbicide prevents these weeds from sapping up water and nutrients, allowing surrounding grasses to flourish.
Application Guidelines
Proper application of Corteva Lontrel is key to achieving successful weed control. Here are some essential guidelines for applying the herbicide:
- Application Rate
When using Corteva Lontrel, the standard use rate is from 0.1- 0.5 oz/ 1,000 square feet. The actual rate will depend on the kinds and growth stage of weeds and the plants. They are there to help, so user do not over-spray and do get effective weed control.
- Timing of Application
Users can apply Lontrel when weeds are small and in a growing stage. Using it at that time means the herbicide works, striking the weeds at their physical low point. For best results, do not spray Lontrel in very hot, cold or extremely dry weather.
- Rainfastness
Once sprayed Lontrel, it is rainproof in two hours. This time restriction is what tells the herbicide is not going to get washed away by rain in that 12-hour period and it can be applied with confidence, even if there were to be some light rain soon after application in that location.
Important Considerations
There are a few important things to remember when applying Corteva Lontrel for maximum effectiveness and to protect non-target plants:
Replanting Interval
When treating with Corteva Lontrel, it is best to wait for 3 weeks to proceed with reseeding or planting new turfgrass. This is so the herbicide doesn't affect new grass growth.
Sensitive Plants
Corteva Lontrel is for attacking the weeds and can mostly be safely applied on the turfgrasses. But it’s always best to stay well away from sensitive plants such as newly planted or shallow-rooted trees and shrubs. These plants, especially legumes, could suffer if their roots touch the herbicide.
Environmental Safety
Do not let Corteva Lontrel runoff into water supplies. Clopyralid persists in soil and is toxic to aquatic life. Avoid using or washing equipment with Corteva Lontrel near waterways such as rivers, streams, and ponds. Users are advised to exercise caution to prevent contamination.
Summary
Corteva Lontrel is an effective solution for broadleaf weed control on turfgrass and ornamental. If the application directions are followed, users can ensure clean, healthy lawns and golf course fairways, safely and effectively, without jeopardizing the health of adjacent plants.
