Amblyseius swimsuit is a predatory mite known for its effectiveness in controlling thrips, making it particularly suitable for warmer climates due to its Mediterranean origin. In addition to thrips, it preys on broad mites, russet mites, and whitefly eggs. The use of adult mites in 1-liter containers, combined with slow-release sachets, has shown optimal results. Grower feedback regarding its effectiveness against broad mites has been consistently positive.

Description

This product is designed for use in warm conditions and is particularly effective on protected crops such as peppers, cucumbers, gerbera, and eggplant. It can also be used on non-protected crops, as long as the average daytime temperatures exceed 68°F/20°C.

The mites establish themselves most quickly on crops with ample pollen, like pepper crops, where the pollen serves as an alternative, high-quality food source. Crops without pollen will see slower establishment, but using sachets that continually release mites over several weeks can improve results.

For best results, it is recommended to use this product early in the crop/pest cycle to prevent the buildup of whiteflies and thrips, as it does not feed on adult stages of these pests.

The product is active at 68°F/20°C, but its performance increases at higher temperatures.

Technical Notes:

  • Activity range: 59°F to 97°F. Mites are active above and below these temperatures, but their reproduction is compromised outside this range.
  • Optimum range: 68°F to 90°F. Reproduction is fastest at 86°F.
  • Optimum humidity: 63% RH
  • Diapause: Swirskii does not undergo diapause
