The American Flag Leek has a sweet, delicate and distinctive flavor that is much milder than an onion. This variety has very large white stems that can measure up to 10" in length and 2" in width. Highly regarded by gourmet cooks. Start seeds indoors or in hot bed 8 weeks before last frost. For later crop (120-140 days) sow directly outdoors in warm and sunny location as soon as ground can be worked. In frost free regions, sow again in late summer. Cultivate soil and enrich with vegetable food. Firm soil over seed. Push soil around stems when 3-4 in./8-10 cm. tall. Feed monthly. May be pulled and enjoyed before maturity.
