One of the most popular storage squash varieties. Easy to grow and compact plants produce beautiful, uniform, dark green 5-6"/13-15 cm. fruits that store well for fall and winter meals. The sweet, golden flesh is delicious when baked and served with melted butter and brown sugar. Select a sunny location and plant in late spring after soil warms. Soil should be cultivated, enriched with vegetable food and organic matter, firmed over the seed, and kept moist. Keep soil moist, weed free and feed monthly. Allow fruit to remain on vine until the skin is hard enough to easily resist scratching or puncturing. Pick before frost, leaving part of stem attached. Cure fruit for one week in warm, dry place and then store in cool place (45°-55°F) with low humidity.
