This easy to grow variety looks like rhubarb, with bright crimson stalks and dark green leaves. Stalks and leaves are vitamin-rich and delicious. Excellent for freezing. Because the plants are so attractive, they are a favorite for the flower border. Grows well in containers. Select a location with average soil and some sunshine, and plant seed as soon as the soil can be worked. In mild winter areas, can be planted anytime of the year. Soil should be cultivated, enriched with vegetable food, and firmed over the seed. Water regularly and feed every 4-6 weeks. Remove old or tough leaves to encourage fresh foliage. Cut outer leaves with sharp knife when 6-10 in./15-25 cm. tall. Replacement leaves will grow from the center. Leaves can be harvested all season long.
