Description

Details

Important Notes:

  • The filter is not dishwasher safe.
  • The filter should only be used for vacuum pump oil.

First Use:

  • Remove cartridge packaging, grip the top of the cartridge, and place it into the cartridge holder.
  • Firmly press in the cartridge until it forms a secure seal.

Optional:

  • The dial on the lid can be set and used as a general reminder of the month you last filtered your oil.

Oil Filtration Directions:

  1. Open the oil reservoir drain valve and allow the oil to drain into your oil filter. Ensure all oil is drained by lifting the rear of the vacuum pump slightly.
  2. Wait for the oil to filter through your filtration system.
  3. A small amount of water accumulates in the oil with each batch. After filtration, the water and oil will separate, with water sinking to the bottom and oil floating on top.
  4. Remove the water from the oil by pouring off the oil and discarding the water. Do not pour the water back into the vacuum pump to prevent damage.
  5. Pour the filtered (or new) oil into your vacuum pump.

How do I know if my filtered oil is clean for use?

The best indications for cleanliness are:

  • Oil is free of debris or particulates.
  • Oil is not milky or chalky.
  • Oil has clarity (yellow or amber color with clarity).
  • Your vacuum pump achieves a suitable pressure (mTorr) for freeze drying.

How do I know when to replace my oil filter?

Signs include:

  • Oil won’t drain through the filter.
  • Oil isn’t cleaning well (remains milky or contains debris).

What to do to replace the oil filter:

  • Replace the cartridge or order a new cartridge replacement set from Harvest Right.
  • Cartridges should be replaced after approximately 15-20 uses, or sooner depending on oil quality.
  • One free oil filter is included with the shipment of each freeze dryer. Filtering the oil is quick and easy and will preserve the life of your pump and increase the performance of your freeze dryer.
