Rain Bird Surge Device, Integrated Control System For IC System™ Type: Surge Device Install every 500 feet Features and Benefits The Integrated Control Surge Device (ICSD) provides surge protection for the system in case of lightning strikes. An ICSD should be located every 15 Integrated Control Modules (ICMs) or every 500 feet (150 meters), whichever condition is reached first. The purpose of field surge devices is to offer “containment” of surge during an event so that damage caused by the event will be limited by an ICSD located on either side of the event. ICSDs should be located at dead ends on long wire runs, approaching 500 feet (150m.) Short wire runs do not require ICSDs at the dead ends.
