No tape required. Just screw it right on top of your NPT swing joint (Rain Bird or competitor!) and screw the ACME case to the adapter. The adapter only adds about 1-3/8 in. to the installed height of the rotor and is rated to the same operating pressures as Rain Bird Swing Joints.
