About This Project

The project "Saving The Split Level" involved a thoughtful and transformative addition to a 1960s split-level home located just north of Decatur, Georgia. Our primary objective was to enhance the living space while preserving the home’s original character and ensuring harmony with the surrounding neighborhood. To achieve this, we expanded the existing Living Room, Dining Room, Master Suite, and Basement Recreation Room by twelve feet at the rear of the house, allowing for a seamless flow and increased functionality. In addition to the expanded living areas, a new Screened Porch was incorporated at the back of the garage, providing a serene space for relaxation and outdoor enjoyment. The design required a strategic approach to the roof layout to ensure that the new additions blended smoothly with the existing structure, maintaining the aesthetic integrity of the front elevation. Our attention to detail allowed us to create a cohesive look that respected the home’s original design while adding modern amenities. As the project progressed, we recognized the potential to further enhance the home’s functionality. We subsequently designed an addition to the front of the house, which enlarged the Kitchen, Breakfast Room, and Foyer. This front expansion slightly altered the exterior but was carefully executed to remain consistent with the architectural style of the neighborhood, ensuring that the home continued to reflect its surroundings. The choice of materials throughout the project emphasized quality and durability, resulting in a contemporary yet timeless design. The new open-concept living room showcases medium-tone wood flooring and white walls, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere. The integration of modern elements with traditional design principles culminated in a stunning transformation that not only increased the home's livable area but also enhanced its overall value. The completed project stands as a testament to skilled craftsmanship and thoughtful design, offering a perfect blend of style, comfort, and functionality.
