The design meticulously honors the building’s heritage, ensuring that the character of the schoolhouse is maintained while adapting it for contemporary living. The renovation focused on the attic space, which had previously served as a storage area for an antique shop. This area was transformed into a functional and inviting master suite, featuring a reimagined arrangement that maximizes space and comfort. The original roof pitch, altered in the 1930s to accommodate a second story, was re-evaluated to enhance the overall aesthetic and functionality of the room. Careful attention was paid to the knee walls, allowing for increased headroom and a more open feel, while still respecting the building’s historical dimensions.
