The historic Chevy Chase project involved a meticulous renovation of a 1927 Colonial Revival home located within the Chevy Chase Village Historic District. This distinguished residence, initially enhanced by brennan + company architects in 1991 with a two-story family room and kitchen addition, has undergone further transformation to elevate its curb appeal and functionality. The clients sought to enrich the front entryway by incorporating a charming covered porch, which not only adds visual warmth but also invites guests into the home. To maximize light and enhance the views from the attic studio, thoughtfully designed dormers were introduced, featuring 9 over 9 wood double-hung windows that harmonize with the home’s historic aesthetic. These elements not only serve a practical purpose but also pay homage to the architectural significance of the original structure. At the rear of the home, a new screened porch with an inviting entry has been added, creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living. This space is designed for relaxation and entertaining, allowing residents to enjoy the surrounding landscape while being shielded from the elements. Additionally, the outdated, failing one-car garage was replaced with a smaller, more efficient model, which complements the overall design and enhances the functionality of the rear yard. The project emphasizes a commitment to craftsmanship and historic integrity, utilizing materials such as brick and bluestone for the porch base, along with elegant cedar columns, posts, and a balustrade that echo the home’s original design. The stone terrace has been redefined within a compact footprint, ensuring that the outdoor space remains both beautiful and practical. The outcome is a harmonious blend of historic charm and modern convenience, ultimately redefining the home while preserving its unique character and enhancing its presence within the Chevy Chase community.
