About This Project

Hillsides Located on a hillside in Los Angeles, the 'Hillsides' was designed and built by W Garett Carlson, ASLA, as an example of the artistry and creativity which can be found in great landscapes. 'Hillsides' is located in neighborhoods such as Bel Air, Beverly Hills, and Pacific Palisades after its transformation from sloping hillside to a beautiful outdoor living space. The design utilizes a mix of native drought tolerant plants, stone pathways, and water features that compliment the beauty of the trees and plants in the landscape. To help establish a sustainable environment, locally sourced materials were used in the design as granite boulders were used and reclaimed wood for trellises and section fencing. Like all hillsides, there were the challenges of sloping grades and soil erosion. The landscape architect used terraced designs to stabilize the resides of the hillsides, while properly draining water away from the buildings. Retaining walls were also used in several areas to both act as a gain method, while providing visual impact. The overall result of the landscaping concepts and thoughtful detail was visually stunningmelding nature and design to create a serene and relaxing environment. The client was extremely happy with the overall transformation, and enjoyed the opportunity to sit and watch their children play while taking in the views. Hillsides shows the commitment of W Garett Carlson to providing quality craftsmanship and creative landscaping solutions, adding lasting value to the residents of Los Angeles.
