Back Yard Gardens by Peter Atkins and Associates, LLC In Connecticut's idyllic countryside, Peter Atkins and Associates, LLC completed the Back Yard Gardens to convert a bare yard into a tranquil garden retreat. The was completed for a wealthy clientele spanning the corridor from Armonk, New York to Redding, Connecticut, and after a thorough design process, we produced a landscape design that was sensitive to the area's natural beauty. The incorporated a stunning selection of native plants for their robustness and seasonality to provide a lively tapestry of color throughout the year. We used stone pathways, created from local bluestone, to provide a balanced nature of use - both practical and aesthetic - while we led the way through garden beds of colorful flowers and green foliage. One challenge we tackled was the slope of the yard, as a slight grade would compromise its usability and increase erosion. Our team utilized innovative techniques to terrace the yard and provide functional raised garden beds using reclaimed wood, adding charm to their landscape while providing an optimal setting for growing herbs and vegetables. We constructed a custom water feature, complete with a waterfall and native aquatic plants, to bring a calming element to the garden. Next to the water feature, we planned functional and discreet outdoor lighting to highlight the beauty of the garden at dusk. The clients are delighted with their finished landscaped backyard that feels like an extension of their home. The attention to detail and quality in materials, as well as the intent of the design rendered the a personal escape for entertaining family and friends or just enjoying quiet moments.
