Olivenhein Southwest Design & Build Nestled among the rolling hills of southern california lies the Olivenhein Southwestern Design & Accessibility , one of two design/build s from Barrels & Branches. Our team was brought in to design a peaceful outdoor retreat that combines an aesthetic with Southwestern style and practical outdoor living spaces serving the diverse neighbourhoods of Cardiff By The Sea, Carlsbad, Del Mar, Encinitas, and beyond. We started with a detailed consultation with the client who wanted a warm, welcoming landscape that celebrated native plants whilst positively impacting the environment. For a garden that is easy to care for, but which still bursts with colour, we chose plants that are all well adapted to dry conditions: bold succulents, some species of agave and colourful ornamental grasses. Well-built flagstone paths leading to a warm fire pit area were part of the , for year-round use. Natural stone boulders and a custom wooden pergola helped add character all whilst providing shaded retreats for entertaining guests and quiet evenings under the stars. The site also presented a challenge with its slopes, so we had to be creative to account for that with some grading for level areas for planting/seating. We used sustainable materials and approaches so that our talented artisans could shape the terrain with consideration for the natural beautycreating an added level of utility while maintaining it all in a harmony. To further optimize water consumption, a drip irrigation system was installed to maintain a lush vegetation cover even in the dry periods. The finished Olivenhein exudes serenity and elegance and the clients were over the moon with the harmony between the outdoors and the dwelling. The end product is a stunning setting that can capture the heart of Southwestern allure with a laid-back but social identity. Barrels & Branches are proud to have made this vision a reality, enhancing the outdoor lifestyle of homes throughout San Diego and the surrounding areas.
