The Suttons Bay Get-away is a testament to thoughtful design and meticulous craftsmanship, nestled in the picturesque village of Suttons Bay, Michigan. This project emerged from a family's desire to create a personal retreat after years of enjoying the Leelanau Peninsula. The selected site, an empty lot on a tranquil dead-end street just two blocks from the vibrant downtown, provided the perfect canvas for their vision. The design process was extensive and collaborative, involving careful negotiations with skilled contractors to ensure every detail was executed to perfection. The resulting cottage is characterized by its simplicity and functionality, capturing the essence of a cozy getaway. The main level features a spacious great room, designed with an open concept that seamlessly integrates a modern galley kitchen at one end and a welcoming fireplace at the other. The vaulted ceiling enhances the sense of space, allowing natural light to pour in and creating a bright, airy atmosphere. Materials were chosen not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for their durability, reflecting the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. The exterior embraces a classic cottage style, utilizing local materials that blend harmoniously with the environment. Inside, contemporary design elements are paired with rustic touches, offering a balance that feels both modern and inviting. The culmination of this project was realized when the cottage was first occupied on New Year's Eve in 1999, marking the beginning of countless cherished memories for the family. The thoughtfully designed bedroom exemplifies this balance, showcasing contemporary design ideas that harmonize with the overall aesthetic of the home. The Suttons Bay Get-away stands as a remarkable example of intentional design and craftsmanship, providing a serene escape that invites relaxation and enjoyment of the stunning Michigan landscape.
