Healthy Hedge QnA QnA: How To Prep To Plant More Plants 12/15/23 by Flora Design and Landscape With autumn colors on the horizon, Flora Design and Landscape set out on a massive Fall Prep in the iconic neighborhoods of Ballwin, Chesterfield, Clarkson Valley, and beyond. We set out to finish the seasonal transition of outdoor spaces by preparing to make them beautiful again. The included a detailed evaluation of each landscape with key components involving mulching, pruning, and selecting seasonable plants. We used quality organic mulch to improve the topsoil, which is important for the well-being of both the perennials and the annuals. We trimmed trees and bushes, pruning them for not just healthy growth, but to maintain their beauty as they went to bed for the winter. One of the biggest challenges for us was controlling the different plants on different properties. Every garden had different needs but our seasoned horticulturists adjusted their approach as needed, treating each plant as if it was their only one. One such example at Chesterfield we implemented was the introduction of hardy ornamental grasses that offered texture during the winter months to the landscape. To add a seasonal basis flower impact to the , we used some of the season flower varieties like chrysanthemums and pansies that gave some color contrasts along with fall foliage. Finally, a fresh layer of mulch was applied in each of the gardens, to help further improve soil health as well as complete and unify the look of each of the gardens. The result? An absolutely stunning transformation that our clients are thrilled with and can't wait for the winter to arrive to hibernate in their own beautifully curated outdoor spaces.
