About This Project

Landscape Portfolio Sunset Hills Flora Design and Landscape is excited to share the transformative outdoor oasis that is the 'Sunset Hills Landscape' located in Chesterfield. Tasked with improving a large property both visually and by creating functional spaces for family gathering and relaxation outdoors, our team serviced the surrounding areas. We started our design process with extensive analysis of the site, learning the specific qualities of the land, such as its slopes topographically, and its flora. Natural stone pathways were added to connect the different zones harmoniously, using locally sourced limestone for strength and rustic appeal. The one area that had been a real problem in the past that silt and other issues had ruined was the drainage. The high-end drainage system we implemented, including French drains, allows for natural water flow and helps against erosion to prolong the life of the landscape. A smart assemblage of native plants chosen for their drought tolerance and low maintenance was used to achieve the design intent. Here we added exciting perennials and ornamental grasses, and flowering shrubs that continue to bloom in sequential flowering periods through several seasons which we integrated for color excitement and changing color contrast and even interaction through the seasons. In order to make the home more enjoyable at night, we provided energy-consuming LED washing of garden areas and prominent functions including the beauty centerpiece tree and custom-design fire pit area. The end result was a magical setting with the perfect marriage of beauty and purpose. The clients were delighted with what is now their outdoor oasis, idyllic with sunset and family entertaining potential.
