Innovative plant selections were made, with colors, textures and sizes blending vibrantly, and included the use of 'cheerful' salvias, 'fluffy' astilbes, and 'seductive' ornamental grasses. Large areas of planting beds layered organization and visual interest throughout the landscape. The rich textures of these colorful plants were juxtaposed against sleek contemporary hardscape, which contributed to the contemporary feel of the outdoor space. Specific hardscape featured a geometric stone patio and bespoke fire pit, both crafted of locally sourced basalt rock materials in connection with the region. Equally important to plant selection was grading the site; there was a significant slope to overcome while working to create proper drainage without losing the visual flow of the design.
