About This Project

St. James Park Copley Wolff Design Group St. James Park is a newly revitalized urban park located in downtown Boston. This careful landscaping shows how to combine natural and social aspects, turning an underused space into a welcoming place for residents and visitors. The design incorporates a variety of native plantings that add colour but also which add diversity to the ecology. With consideration towards quality materials such as permeable pavers and locally quarried granite, we created pathways that invite a stroll and foster connections among visitors. The centerpiece is a beautiful central lawn bordered with flowering trees and an array of shrubs, making this perfect for weekend community events or just a common area for families to relax in (private lawns fringe the central park). The greatest design challenge we were presented with was how to incorporate the principal of sustainability within the design whilst working around the existing site drainage issues. Rain Garden and Bio-swales: Our team had diligent work with our engineering design to create a rain garden and bio-swales to help gather stormwater runoff sustainably on the property while allowing it to be a local wildlife habitat. Thoughtful planting of drought-tolerant plants ensures seasonal vibrancy while lowering maintenance costs and environmental impact. When finished, St. James Park is a popular landmark, subject to praise for its innovative elements and key design.
