Hades and Flames Brewery

Hell n' Blazes Brewery embodies a remarkable transformation of a historic 115-year-old building in downtown Melbourne, FL, honoring the rich cultural heritage of the region while creating a vibrant space for craft beer enthusiasts. Spanning 16,000 square feet, this project required a meticulous renovation that pieced together the building's storied past, once serving various purposes from a hardware store to a bank and even a mortuary. The renovation focused on preserving significant architectural features, including the beautiful pressed tin ceilings and original hardwood floors that echo the building's historical narrative. The project involved a comprehensive overhaul of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to accommodate modern brewing operations, culminating in a newly poured concrete slab at the heart of the space. This central two-story area prominently showcases the brewing process through interior glass walls, allowing visitors in the tasting room to appreciate the craftsmanship and artistry behind each brew. The design choices reflect a blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for patrons. One of the most striking aspects of the renovation is the facade, where a bold commitment to restoration is evident. The unattractive flagstone facing added in the 1970s has been skillfully removed, unveiling the original brick façade hidden beneath layers of paint. This careful stripping back to its roots not only revitalizes the building's exterior but also enhances its historical significance. Window openings, long plastered over, have been uncovered and fitted with new windows, inviting natural light into the space and connecting the brewery with the lively streets of downtown Melbourne. To further honor its heritage, a new metal canopy reminiscent of the original hardware store entrance has been installed, providing a charming and functional element to the façade.
