The project, A Modern Take on a Country Kitchen, located in Amherst, NY, epitomizes the harmonious blend of contemporary design with traditional farmhouse charm. This comprehensive remodel was initiated in 2016 and involved a complete gut renovation down to the studs and subfloors, addressing both aesthetic and structural challenges to create a functional and inviting kitchen space. One of the foremost hurdles encountered was leveling the original flooring, which varied by several inches, necessitating careful planning and execution to ensure a seamless finish. The layout transformation was substantial, transitioning from a U-shaped kitchen with a peninsula to a more open L-shape featuring a welcoming island. This modification not only provided additional workspace but also allowed for the integration of larger professional-grade appliances, enhancing the kitchen's functionality. The relocation of the sink was a key design choice, fostering an eat-in area that encourages family gatherings and casual dining while maintaining an efficient flow during meal preparations. Attention was also directed towards the half bathroom adjacent to the kitchen. Originally, the bathroom’s door opened directly into the kitchen, disrupting circulation. By rotating the toilet and repositioning the bathroom entrance, a more fluid transition was established, ensuring that the kitchen ambiance remains undisturbed. Design elements were meticulously selected to reflect a modern farmhouse aesthetic. The bold navy blue cabinets serve as a striking focal point, complemented by matte brass hardware and fixtures that add a touch of elegance.
