Ahlers - Back Yard Completed by Colonial Classics Landscape In the heart of Newburgh, the Ahlers showcases the artistry and precision that Colonial Classics Landscape offers with each we undertake. We were given the great opportunity to expand and transform the Ahlers' back yard into a peaceful retreat that included beauty and functionality. We began with an initial consultation to understand exactly what the clients' vision was for their outdoor space. Some of the major elements in our design were a beautiful stone patio made from local sourced flagstone, which is very durable and rustic, and the incorporation of many native plant species that thrive in the Ohio Valley climate while being very low maintenance. The native plants not only provide beauty to the space but also habitat for other wildlife. The biggest challenge was the steep grade of the back yard that created drainage and usability challenges. To mitigate the drainage and usability challenges, we designed terraced garden beds with natural boulders and rich top soil to create an eye catching landscape while reducing water run-off issues. By designing terraced garden beds, we were able to enhance the dimensional quality and interests of the overall landscape. Additionally, to further enhance the space overall, we installed soft landscape lighting to illuminate the pathways and highlight various aspects of the overall landscape so that the Ahlers can enjoy their back yard during the evening hours. The addition of a custom fire pit along with cozy seating and greenery made the perfect gathering space for family and friends. When we were done, the did depart from the previous design status an underutilized yard to a beautiful functional outdoor retreat that expressed their personal tastes. Not only does the express the Ahlers personal aesthetic, Colonial Classics Landscape utilized quality craftsmanship and attention to detail to complete all aspects of the to exceed the Ahlers expectations.
