The goal of the was to create a permanent, visually attractive wall that would be durable enough to withstand site pressures associated with the adjacent landscaping; and attempt to marry well with the existing campus architecture. We spent considerable time reviewing stone selection for solid construction as well as beauty and elegance. We chose natural stone for its appearance and durability. Natural stone, during its lifetime, will weather and showcase its ability to age gracefully. During construction, we encountered some challenging site conditions, including unstable soils and system drainage systems to avoid ponding at the retaining wall base on the landscape. Our team of the contractors used strong engineering principles throughout the design process, including geo-textiles and incorporated drainage solutions. Ultimately, our team was able to build the wall strong enough to perform its function yet aesthetically sound for the landscape. In the end, we achieved a nice architecture retaining wall with well-structured and a stone selection designed to pack together to create a stunning visual element. Native planting were baked into the designs to help soften the image and show an appreciation for local biodiversity. Finally, we appreciate the time and effort our client put toward Iona Preparatory High School's . The school felt like we integrated their wall into the landscape perfectly, and creating a beautiful new structure that represents their school mission. Altogether, we improved the function and experience the school has to offer its students, faculty, parents, and visitors alike.
