About This Project

Mid-Century River House The Mid-Century River House, a by CARBO Landscape Architecture, showcases creative design and cutting-edge carpentry. Located on the quiet part of the river, this lot offers mid-century form nestled into the environment. We were tasked with taking a somewhat neglected plot and creating a colourful, outdoor sanctuary which enhanced, but didn't overshadow, the iconic architecture of the home. This utilized mostly native species that not only maintained but improved ecological stability at the site with low maintenance and sustainable. Carefully chosen materials like local stone pavers, sustainably- harvested hardwood decking, and decorative gravel have provided attractive textures and colors that reflect the mid-century roots of the home. The sound of water soothes the nerves, and so a beautiful water feature forms the heart of the landscape beautifully merging tranquillity and green foliage. Modern outdoor living areas were also included: a patio with custom seating and fire pits designed for entertaining or small gatherings. The demanded a consistent and high level of collaboration with the clients to realize their vision in a way that tackled site-specific matters, such as issues with drainage and soil erosion. The end product is a stunning landscape that adds not only to the beauty of the Mid-Century River House but also offers a peaceful escape for family and friends to enjoy. The happy clients stated how the lifestyle fit so easily into their lifestyle, providing the ideal balance of style and nature in Baton Rouge, Village Saint George, and New Orleans. Designed by CARBO Landscape Architecture, this is proof that when done, rightly, design will change the physical nature of a space, both utility and beauty.
