Located in the beautiful Auburn landscape, it provides a functional blend of nature and modern outdoor living. The main feature of the Thompson Lake is the large multi-tiered patio made of natural stone, which provides a durable surface for gathering and entertaining. Next to the patio is a custom-built fire pit with seating that was carefully placed around the fire, providing a peaceful outdoor space while enjoying the night sky. The fire pit is also surrounded by beautiful flower beds packed with native species, planned around bloom seasons to provide bursts of color year-round while providing habitat value and biodiversity. One of the most challenging aspects of this was the sloping site. Significant grading and earth-displacement plans were needed to unionize the patio and yard properly. Other specialists created plans to ensure proper drainage and mitigating erosion in the area. In addition, after leveling the area for the patio and finishing the landscaping, they tested the irrigation system to ensure the new plantings would thrive, especially through the hot, dry months. The landscape also provides minimal night-lighting. We installed "soft landscape lighting," which gives a warm, welcoming experience, illuminates the pathways, and utilizes the adjoining landscape for a night-time experience. The vision for the Thompson family was to achieve harmony between hardscape and softscape. The combination of patio, firepits, chairs, native plants, various landscaping, trees where applicable, and a designed outdoors living area accomplished all those items.
