Downtown Annapolis Pond Honeysuckle Nursery & Design is excited to share the Downtown Annapolis Pond , which transformed the landscape to create a natural aesthetic and functional outdoor space. Located in downtown Annapolis, the was designed to beautify the area and address the challenges that arise from building a landscape in an urban setting. The opened with a comprehensive site analysis, which identified an area with limited use that was lacking both human experience and ecological experience. Honeysuckle used reflective design to create something beautiful and supportive of the local wildlife in the formed wetlands. We used materials like permeable pavers to create walkways that allowed for efficient drainage and sustainability without interrupting the natural events that you would find in such a landscape. One of the major issues faced was soil quality, which was compacted and did not foster plant health. We remedied this by amending the existing soil with organic compost and layering the plantings with species that are native and robust in our climate and environment. This improved the site experience and successfully established a thriving ecosystem to promote the health and wellbeing of the home. The end result is a beautiful pond that serves as the focal point for the local community. The pond incorporates quiet, creative seating for the community out of reclaimed wood, a native wildflower garden, and slopes that help to communicate the landscape in a sustainable way. Water features were included, which created sounds of rushing soothing water, to invite the community to stop and enjoy the wellness of the space.
