Long Beach Stone Steps by Planned Environment Associates Planned Environment Associates is proud to present the 'Long Beach Stone Steps' , which exemplifies our commitment to quality and design in landscapes. Located in the unique surroundings in Long Beach, Indiana, we were challenged to convert a complex, steep site into a significant outdoor experience that celebrates design, utility, and the natural landscape. The primary function of this was to design a set of stone steps that were aesthetically pleasing but still provided safe passage for residents and visitors managing the steep slope. We utilized a combination of locally sourced natural stones that would create a visual unity with its surrounding setting. The multicolor and textures of the stone add beauty to the landscape and provide a long-term solution. The steps involved several challenges, ly, how to deal with drainage and the slope's steepness. Fortunately, with our knowledge of landscapes, we were able to devise an innovative drainage solution that mitigates ponding at the steps while protecting the integrity of the structure. Overall, the process resulted in stunning stairs that weave through the landscape and foster movement and access. The use of native plants that punctuate the steps soften the hardscaping and add color seasonally, while providing a warm welcome. The client could not believe the change in the existing space, and was thrilled with the aesthetic and usability of their outdoor space. The 'Long Beach Stone Steps' is a representation of Planned Environment Associates' commitment to craftsmanship, innovation, and creating a unique in the landscapes of clients in Beverly Shores, Chesterton, Dune Acres, and beyond. We pride ourselves in designing landscapes that are not only beautiful, but also sustainable and usable for daily life.
