It's inspiring renovation that made a seldom used back yard into a place to enjoy the fresh outdoors, blending practical with nature. We kicked off this with a comprehensive consultation to discover insights on the client’s vision along with how they live. Detailed Landscape created a brilliant design for a multi-level patio to make entertaining outdoors seamless with locally-sourced high quality flagstone. We complemented the space with a desirable water feature which is visually pleasing as a backdrop and a tranquil sound element that softens the yard into an oasis. It wasn't without challenges however, especially regarding the slope of the ground and drainage. With a talented team, we overcame these challenges by using detailed drainage design that both managed total water flow, while also keeping to the intention of the landscape design. So they graded the land and built French drains so even when it rains hard, the backyard stays pretty and dry! Another aspect to admire is the planting scheme, planted with colorful native plants and ornamental grasses that love Colorado's climate. It also makes for regular visual interest for every season, while contributing to biodiversity with local wildlife. Some other advantages is the addition of well placed outdoor lighting, which adds more beauty to the landscape by night making the space to be enjoyed by the client after sun has gone down. What the team ended up with was a simply stunning backyard sanctuary that married the homeowner's desire of a contemporary design with the warmth of natural materials. The space has now become ideal for cozy fireside chats at the fire pit, as well as peaceful evenings near the water feature.
