Birdrock Midcentury Carson Douglas Landscape Architecture: 'Birdrock Midcentury' Landscaping -Located in La Jolla, California A beautiful and inviting outdoor space that embraces the mid-century lure of the home coupled with some modern sensibility within an Australian context. It features a diverse collection of native drought-tolerant plants selected specifically for San Diego's Mediterranean climate. In addition to local stone and weathered wood used throughout, we referenced the mid-century sensibility seeking to create landscape that not only embodies that ethos but is also timeless. A refined linear path composed of reclaimed concrete pavers weaves through an aesthetic flower beds, connecting and visually anchoring the design. Where the challenge came was existing unlevel ground and poor drainage. We solved the problem with this beautiful, elaborate landscape design by engineering a French drain system for water management beneath all of it. Not only prevented erosion but reinvigorated the soil, a green lushness being its flourished state. Even better, a low-maintenance succulent garden that makes the Birdrock Midcentury pop with eye-catching color and texture throughout the year. The fire pit area, surrounded by native grasses and timber seating made from reclaimed timber, custom designed to facilitate relaxation and socialisation, is an example of outdoor living that the client wished to achieve. The end product is a yard that is an extension of the house, a beautiful outdoor space to retreat to, and sustainable in every way. The clients were thrilled with the change, saying the design not only provided curb appeal to their property, but provided a welcoming space for family and friends. Once again, Carson Douglas Landscape Architecture has done an incredible job at creating true San Diego landscaping with however what seems to be an obvious eye for detail and emphasis on quality. The Birdrock Midcentury perfectly demonstrates our commitment to landscaping excellence for the communities of Bonita, Chula Vista, Coronado, and beyond.
