Urban Residential Garden by California Farm and Garden California Farm and Garden is excited to showcase its recent Urban Residential Garden , located in beautiful San Diego, California. This transformation into the landscape was purposely designed with modern sensibilities and sustainability in mind, creating a place of peace and enjoyment for the homeowners in their backyard. In the garden, there is a distinguished assortment of native plants selected for their ability to grow naturally in a Southern California climate, which supports biodiversity and enhances sustainability while minimizing water use. Drought-resistant plants include California poppies, succulents, and ornamental grasses blended together to provide year-round interest. A lovely flagstone pathway, made of locally-sourced material, has been added to the lush garden space to create a peaceful experience as one walks through the beautifully planned landscape. One big challenge in this was utilizing a sloping site to create flat spaces for entertaining, while at the same time maintaining the nature of the existing landscape. To meet this challenge, our team created innovative terracing designed around a rustic design, and a series of retaining walls with reclaimed wood to provide adequate support to maintain the slopes while adding built-in aesthetics that also relates to the natural surroundings. Also demonstrating responsibility, the showcases a rainwater harvesting system that collects runoff from the roof and provides homeowners with a water-efficient way to irrigate the garden. Soft ambient landscape lighting was used throughout the space providing soft illumination of paths and features, making it possible for the homeowners to use the garden space well into the evening. This reflects the coherence of beauty and use, and is an example of what is possible for outdoor living spaces. The clients are delighted with their new tranquil retreat from urban life.
