Alcazar Court By: Carson Douglas Landscape Architecture Alcazar Court is the epitome of a well-organized landscape design, featuring beautiful aesthetics combined with functional landscapes in the heart of San Diego. The task was the rehabilitation of a little used outdoor space into a space which is colorful, enlivening and in accord with the architecture and nature . Carson Douglas Landscape Architecture took on the difficulty of working with unique site conditions from neighboring trees requiring extreme pruning and undulating, often steep, ground cover. We leveled the ground where the party tents would be set up and also added some strategic grading for proper drainage and easy access. The design incorporates the native plants that would do best in the climate where the home is located, and many of the plants act as part of a healthy ecosystem. Vivid succulents, colourful perennials and fragrant shrubs not only serve to beautify the landscape but also help attract local pollinators which establish a thriving system of life. The exquisite Alacazar Court is characterised by a fairytale flagged pathway that guides visitors through the garden. The path was made from stones and naturally occurring rock throughout the region to preserve the beauty of the environment and save money on purchasing stones. We created a custom water feature to bring the sound of moving water to encourage calm and contemplation. We also included outdoor living areas, how we use them, in addition to the garden. A well designed pergola sheltered with climbing vines provides a cool and shady refuge for family get togethers or even after dark. Choosing durable and weather-resistant furniture to survive coastal-element exposure and provide lasting comfort. We encountered challenges along the way such as limited time constraint and having to reach out to utility companies to avoid disruptions. Fortunately, working in close coordination with our partners at Carson Douglas Landscape Architecture allowed us to deliver our end of the on time, much to the pleasure of our client. Alcazar Court has become a colorful gathering space, full of personality that resonates with the owners and integrates into its surroundings. The end result is a property that not only looks great from the street but adds huge value to this home showing that houses need good facelifts too to create a little sanctuary.
