The Mt. Vernon Park Kitchen and Pantry renovation project in Alexandria, VA, showcases a harmonious blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern functionality. The primary objective was to enhance the existing kitchen and pantry space by providing additional cabinet and countertop areas while maintaining the original room dimensions and walls. To address the seasonal discomfort caused by cold temperatures in winter, the project incorporated insulation for all exterior walls and introduced hydronic toe kick heaters, ensuring a cozy environment year-round. The design choices reflect a commitment to preserving the historical integrity of the home. Traditional style cabinets were meticulously selected to provide ample storage without compromising the aesthetic appeal. Marvin windows and doors were installed, chosen for their period-appropriate design that seamlessly matches the existing casings and trim throughout the house. This attention to detail not only enhances the visual consistency but also contributes to improved energy efficiency. In addition to the cabinetry and heating solutions, the project included the repair and refinishing of original oak hardwood flooring. The rich tones of the restored floors beautifully complement the new oak wood floors installed in the kitchen and pantry, creating a cohesive look that ties the entire space together.
