About This Project

The Blue/Green Kitchen and Powder Room project revitalized a charming 1920s Tudor home in Indianapolis, transforming its traditional layout into a modern, open-concept space that seamlessly integrates functionality with aesthetic appeal. The homeowners sought to expand their cramped kitchen, which was confined by compartmentalized rooms, and to modernize the overall design. By leveraging a large rear addition, we successfully removed the walls enclosing the previous half bath and an inaccessible pantry, allowing for a dramatic reconfiguration of the kitchen layout. The result was an inviting U-shaped kitchen that promotes natural flow and interaction, featuring a seating peninsula perfect for casual dining and entertaining. To enhance culinary experiences, we incorporated a second prep sink, accommodating multiple cooks in the kitchen. The design choices included upgrading from a gas range to double ovens and an induction cooktop, providing modern cooking technology while optimizing space. The pantry was reimagined with 30-inch-deep cabinets, creating the illusion of a built-in refrigerator, which improved both aesthetics and storage efficiency. In addition to the kitchen, the powder room was thoughtfully designed to maximize utility within a compact footprint. A unique aspect of this space is the use of what would typically be considered an appliance garage; this recessed area was transformed into a new half bath. This innovative approach not only added functionality but also created an interesting defined shelf space, enhancing the overall design of the powder room. Craftsmanship was paramount throughout the project, with attention to detail evident in the selection of materials and finishes. The blue and green palette adds a refreshing vibrancy, bringing the spaces to life while maintaining a cohesive design narrative. Ultimately, this project reflects a successful marriage of modern convenience and classic charm, tailored to the needs of a growing family while ensuring that each element contributes to the home’s character.
