Hillside Retreat: A Tranquil Landscape Conversion by Louis Fusco Landscape Architects Hillside Retreat represents everything that can be accomplished by Louis Fusco Landscape Architects working in a residential landscape in the heart of Westchester County. The large residential landscape was designed to reflect the beauty of the natural setting and provide an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Hillside Retreat features thoughtfully placed elements, such as a terraced garden with a mix of native plantings to support local ecology, and a beautiful stone path made of local bluestone for durability and aesthetics. A calming water feature with a waterfall was incorporated to foster relaxation through the sound of flowing water and provide habitat for local wildlife. The steep slope of the hillside was one of the more difficult challenges we had to contend with. We constructed a series of retaining walls made of natural boulders to provide accessible flat surfaces to work safely and ensure responsible drainage. We were fortunate to be able to plant additional areas with seasonal flowering plants to preserve the nature of the landscape. The final product is a stunning space that balances function and beauty. Unique outdoor lights illuminate the outdoors at night and create a magical atmosphere for evening gatherings. The homeowners were thrilled to have a new backyard oasis that is a true combination of nature and craftsmanship that represents retreat.
