The Owen Block Apartments, a distinguished French Second Empire structure dating back to 1882, has undergone a remarkable transformation since being saved from demolition by Indiana Landmarks in 2016, alongside the passionate grassroots campaign known as the “Blockheads.” Completed in 2017 by Architectural Renovators, this project has successfully converted the historic building into 15 market-rate apartment units, showcasing the community’s commitment to preservation and revitalization. The design emphasizes a careful balance between modern living and historical integrity, ensuring that the essence of the original architecture is not only preserved but celebrated. The streetscape design enhances accessibility for residents, providing safe and convenient access to the basement and first-floor apartment entries without compromising the building's historical character.
