Statement: Moreland Hills Scenic Ravine Getaway The Moreland Hills Scenic Ravine Getaway, constructed by THE OHIO VALLEY GROUP, INC., is a beautiful representation of the impact that design can have on an outdoor space. Located in the scenic hills of Moreland Hills, this took advantage of the provided beauty of the land, and provided an amazing sanctuary for the homeowner. The included designing and creating a multi-level series of gardens with a diverse plant palette of native plants; ferns, wildflowers, and different ornamental grasses, to enhance here biodiversity. The use of naturally quarried flagstone in the step-paths ensured longevity, but also allowed for a natural flow through the landscape that was both inviting, and allowed the users to discover the space in their own way. One of the major challenges for this was the steep grade of the ravine. We developed a solution to grade down and pin- the soil with retaining walls, which were built with weathered limestone that had multiple purposes: stabilized the soil, beautified the space, and integrated naturally into the landscape. Accent lighting was placed near the walls in various locations to allow people to see the walls and lend to the setting during dusk. The end product is an oasis featuring a water feature that is relaxing like the water trickling over rocks in a stream, and an outdoor seating area overlooking the beautiful and green, restored landscape. The homeowners love the space and how it ties into the artistic beauty of nature, and environmental sustainability!
