The On Point project represents a thoughtful renovation of a seaside Cape-style house in Narragansett, Rhode Island, designed to enhance its natural charm while ensuring compliance with coastal regulations. This endeavor was driven by the clients’ desire for a relaxed, outdoors-oriented lifestyle that would allow them to maximize their time at the beach. The project commenced with a comprehensive review of the site’s coastal regulations, leading to the development of a master plan that highlighted the unique potential of this waterfront location. To meet the necessary regulations while enhancing the home's functionality, the house was elevated above the floodplain, allowing for improved safety and compliance. A new front yard grade was established to harmonize with the new elevation, ensuring a seamless transition from the exterior to the landscape. The planning also included a designated area for a future garage, further streamlining the property’s design. The exterior modifications were both strategic and aesthetic. The front door was centered to provide a welcoming focal point, while the enlargement of the front dormer added to the home’s character and allowed for increased natural light. Inside, the renovation included a beach-style bathroom that embodies the relaxed elegance the coastal environment inspires. The bathroom features thoughtfully chosen materials and finishes that reflect both functionality and style, creating a serene retreat that complements the overall design ethos of the home.
