Before and After by Mark Herman & Associates, Inc. The 'Before and After' in Sarasota, Florida, was a transformative landscape completed by Mark Herman & Associates, Inc. It was designed to improve a homeowner's exterior space by converting a dull yard into a colorful outdoor living space designed to increase curb appeal and enhance outdoor living. The challenges on this were addressed by the condition of the site. Our team faced an uneven site, overgrown vegetation, and shrubby items that too long had obscured the property's natural beauty. The first assessment revealed a need for drainage improvements, along with a need for lower maintenance plants that provided visual interest. To address these challenges, we implemented an overall plan with native Florida plants that provide year-round color and texture while providing a low maintenance landscape. We selected durable materials like natural stone pathways and decorative gravel to contrast the existing lush planting. A custom irrigation system was installed to provide for efficient watering while allowing the landscape to thrive with limited long-term input, protecting the environment. The end product is a high-quality yard completed with clearly defined spaces for gathering or restful relaxation. A calming seating area with fragrant jasmine and color and texture with lantanas for family fun is adjacent to the new fire pit cooking space perfect for evening conversations. The reinstates the garden as a focus in the overall aesthetics of the property while also adding value. Overall, the product exceeded our client's expectations by creating a very usable outdoor space that is both dramatic and increased outdoor living.
