Ross Lodge is a striking contemporary lodge-style home that embodies a unique design philosophy often referred to as "new primitive." Nestled against the base of a hill on a flag lot, the layout ingeniously merges the front and back yards, creating an expansive play area that caters to the needs of family life, particularly for children. This thoughtful arrangement not only maximizes outdoor space but also enhances the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. The hillside is complemented by two charming cabins that are seamlessly integrated into the terrain, accessible via a state-of-the-art "hillevator," an inclined elevator that adds a touch of modern convenience to the rustic setting. The design of Ross Lodge was meticulously crafted during my tenure as the Senior Design Associate at Polsky Architects, where a commitment to innovative architecture and sustainable materials guided the project from conception to completion. One of the standout features of the home is the master bath, which showcases an exquisite vanity equipped with custom stone sinks elegantly mounted on a "table-style cabinet." This bespoke design not only elevates the aesthetic appeal of the space but also reflects a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. The use of glass wall tile made from melted beer bottles adds an eco-friendly element to the décor, merging artistry with sustainability in a way that is both visually stunning and environmentally responsible. The outcome of the Ross Lodge project is a harmonious blend of contemporary design and natural elements, resulting in a residence that is not only functional but also a true representation of modern lodge living. This home has been recognized for its thoughtful design and innovative features, having been published in Marin Magazine in April 2007, under the title "Lodge Living." With a budget exceeding $2 million, every aspect of Ross Lodge reflects a commitment to quality, sustainability, and a deep respect for its natural surroundings.
